Through research, we learned that many people have the perception that if they don’t use their seatbelt, it’s okay because – unlike drunk driving or distracted driving – the only threat it poses is to themselves. When they don’t buckle up, they’re not hurting anyone else.

The “Hurt” campaign for the South Dakota Office of Highway Safety aimed to show people how the impact of a crash extends far beyond the scene of the accident. Not wearing a seatbelt can hurt a lot of people.
