It was one heck of a ride. You know the kind where you are gripping your seatbelt, desperately trying to hold yourself in your seat. Where you don’t dare look out the window because you don’t really want to know how close you are to the edge of the gravel road.
Yep, it was that kind of ride. One that makes you literally weak in the knees.
It was the final day of the shoot for the South Dakota Department of Tourism. We were high above the town of Historic Deadwood, and we still had one very steep hike to reach the precipice of the My Great Place campaign.
My Great Place launched in 2015, and in 2016, we elevated it (literally) to include even more of those experiences and moments you can only encounter in South Dakota. Using iconic imagery on billboards and on mall entrances, visitors in Minneapolis, Des Moines, the Quad Cities, Chicago, Milwaukee, Madison and Kansas City are being invited to find their Great Place in South Dakota. Baseball fans cheering on their favorite teams are seeing Mount Rushmore National Memorial and Badlands National Park right behind home plate, and other visitors are being mailed a custom-made refrigerator frame so they can always remember their Great Place.
When families sit down to watch TV or a young, adventurous couple watches a show online, they are seeing a variety of destinations and experiences that make South Dakota vacations so special. They’re being inspired to find their Great Place. And we promise, it’s one heck of a ride.
